Clozapine displays affinity to various neuroreceptors with a particularly low affinity to the dopamine receptors, thus breaking the mold of first-generation antipsychotics and deeming it "atypical". This low affinity to dopamine receptors results in fewer extrapyramidal side effects, especially tardive dyskinesia.
