AMBROXOL+LEVOFLOXACIN consists of two medicines, namely: Ambroxol (dilutes viscous cough) and Levofloxacin (antibiotic), belongs to a class of drugs called 'respiratory stimulants' primarily used to treat acute (short term) and chronic (long term) respiratory diseases associated with excess mucus. Ambroxol is a mucolytic that thins and loosens mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out. Levofloxacin comes into the category of antibiotic medicines that stop bacterial growth by inhibiting the two enzymes (bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase) required for bacterial cell growth. As a result, bacterial cells are not able to reproduce and grow. It is a bacteriostatic antibiotic, i.e., it stops bacteria's growth but does not necessarily kill them. The addition of ambroxol enhances the antibacterial effect of levofloxacin.
