Sitagliptin 50 mg & Metformin 850 mg Tablets is a combination of two medicines that control high blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This helps prevent serious complications of diabetes, such as kidney damage and blindness, and may reduce your chances of having a heart attack or stroke.
Treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush, or break it.
Sitagliptin and metformin are oral medications that work together to control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes -
Sitagliptin: A dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases the body's production of insulin. Sitagliptin works by blocking the breakdown of incretin hormones, which are released after eating and stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin. Sitagliptin also signals the liver to stop producing sugar when blood sugar levels are high.
Metformin: Decreases the amount of sugar the liver produces and reduces the amount of sugar absorbed by the intestines. Metformin also helps the body use sugar more efficiently.
