Aliskiren and valsartan are medications that work together to lower blood pressure by blocking different parts of the renin-angiotensin system
Aliskiren is a direct renin inhibitor that prevents the conversion of angiotensinogen to angiotensin I, an early step in the RAAS pathway. This reduces the production of angiotensin II and aldosterone, which causes blood vessels to relax and the heart to pump more efficiently.
Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB) that blocks the final receptor in the RAAS pathway.
