Atorvastatin is a lipid-lowering medication (statin). It works by blocking an enzyme (HMG-CoA-reductase) that is required in the body to make cholesterol. It thus lowers "bad" cholesterol (LDL), triglycerides and raises "good" cholesterol (HDL). Vitamin D3 is added to relieve the muscular pain caused by Atorvastatin .
Vitamin D induced CYP3A4, reducing active concentrations of atorvastatin and its metabolites. This reduction should produce an increase in cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels. However, the inverse was observed, with a fall in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels.
