Carvedilol (Coreg) is a beta blocker. It lowers blood pressure and heart rate. Carvedilol's mechanism of action is to block various receptors (binding sites) in the body, including beta-1, beta-2, and alpha-1 receptors. By blocking alpha-1 receptors, carvedilol lowers blood pressure more than most beta blockers.
