Glibenclamide, also known as glyburide, is an oral antidiabetic drug that works by blocking potassium channels in pancreatic beta cells, which stimulates insulin secretion. Glibenclamide stimulates insulin secretion by inhibiting ATP-sensitive potassium channels located on β cells, resulting in elevated levels of intracellular potassium and calcium ions. Consequently, the heightened level of calcium within the cell triggers the secretion of granules that contain insulin.
