The mechanisms of action for glucosamine include maintaining elasticity, strength and resilience of the cartilage, the inhibition of proteolytic enzymes and promotion of glycosaminoglycan and proteoglycan synthesis. Sodium and chloride major electrolytes of the fluid compartment outside of cells work together to control extracellular volume and blood pressure. Disturbances in sodium concentrations in the extracellular fluid are associated with disorders of water balance.
