Lignocaine blocks the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses by decreasing the ionic flux by blocking certain channels, which results in local anesthesia. The mechanism by which this medicine depresses arrhythmias may be its ability to depress conduction in ischemic myocardium rather than to improve conduction or suppress normal or abnormal automaticity.
