Sitagliptin and metformin are oral medications that work together to treat type 2 diabetes by reducing blood glucose levels -
Sitagliptin : Increases the production of insulin by the pancreas after eating a meal. It also signals the liver to stop producing sugar when blood sugar levels are high.
Metformin : Reduces the amount of glucose produced by the liver and decreases the absorption of glucose in the gut. It also helps the body use sugar better.
Sitagliptin and metformin are taken together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control. They are not intended for treating type 1 diabetes.
